I was reading an interesting post by Andy Abramson this morning where he talks about desktop phones versus tablets or smart phones.  The question is, why buy/use a traditional desktop phone (even if it is an ip phone) instead of the alternative, tablet or mobile phone?  

My first response would be the ease of dialing and the speaker phone.  But for the savings of not buying a new desktop phone you could buy a nice bluetooth headset and in regard to the ease of dialing, I don’t think this is for you if you do a lot of dialing.  

I know our Mobile Office app is pretty robust and would look great on a big screen Android phone sitting next to my computer on my desk where a much larger desktop phone would be.  As someone who used to travel a reasonable bit and spent many days and nights working in a hotel room this is a great replacement.  As far as desktop phone replacement goes, I’ll let you know in a few weeks.  I’ve decided to attempt to use just my Android LG Nitro phone for a few weeks instead of my Phone.com Polycom HD 450.  I’ll let you all know how it goes but I’m curious to know if any of you are using a tablet or smart phone as a desktop phone replacement.  If you’re not is it something you would consider?  Let us know on our Facebook page at FB.com/PhoneDotCom.
