Phone.com Is Our Current Future

Thursday, November 17th, 2011 at 12:31 PM EST

I am a sucker for all the videos that come out that show off Micrsosoft’s or BlackBerry’s (sorry the video has been removed from the web) vision of the future. This one I saw recently from Ericsson. These video’s are a glimpse in to the future and as much as I know this won’t all come true it’s something to look forward to. I personally believe that in the next 2 years we’ll have cell phones and desktop work phones that interact, share a single call log and phone book. I think we’ll have smarter devices hopefully even full homes, that know when we drive up and turn on the lights. I think we’ll stop needing to tell our TV’s what to record for us and it will all just be available to us all the time. I think tablets will be common place in schools and they’ll be cheap enough for parents to buy 1 for each of their kids. I think in the next 5-10 years we’ll see ovens we can talk to to tell what temperature to cook our food and wouldn’t it be even more amazing if you could ask the oven what the minimum temperature is to cook a chicken? It would go online, get the answer and reply to you.

I may be a dreamer but so much of this is going to be coming true sooner then we think. You may have recently seen the video with the 1yr old trying to interact with a paper magazine like she would with an iPad. There are all kinds of health products you can wear to monitor your vitals or track your sleeping pattern.

What have you seen? Are there any neat futuristic devices or services you’ve seen in your day to day life? I hope someday I’ll be able to use my cell phone and desktop phone as 1. With shared minutes, a single inbox and 1 number to rule them all. Oh wait, I have that already with Phone.com. But in all seriousness we’re living in the future already, take advantage of the services you have available to you. It might take a few minutes to learn all about it and set it up but in the long run you will be so happy you did.
