Adding a Toll-free or Vanity Number

Phone.com offers a variety of toll-free and custom number types.

A toll-free number is a phone number that offers free calling for the caller. The cost of the call is charged instead to the toll-free number’s subscriber.
A custom number is a phone number that is easy to remember because it spells or means something—for example, 1-800-POPCORN or 1-800-GET-INFO. We offer two types of custom numbers:

• Custom Local: These numbers use local area codes and the caller pays for the call.
• Custom Toll-free: These numbers use toll-free prefixes like 800 or 888, and calls to the number are free for the caller.

Adding a Toll-free Number

Start by logging into the Control Panel for advanced account administration.

1. Mouse over Configure and click Add a Number.
2. Click Add Toll Free.
3. Select a toll-free number prefix (from 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, or 833).
4. Check the box beside the toll-free number that you want to use and click Continue.
The phone number that you selected is added to your account.

Note that your Phone.com service includes the cost of one U.S. local or toll-free phone number. If this is an additional number, you’ll be billed the pro-rated amount for the number at the end of the month, and a monthly fee from then on.

Adding a Custom Local Number

2. Click Search for Custom Local.
3. Select your state, enter your three-digit area code and the four-letter term that you want to use for your local vanity number, then click Find My Number.

The custom local phone number that you selected is added to your account.
If the number you choose is one that we have to order, it will take seven to ten business days to be activated.
Your account will be billed for the number purchase immediately. If this is an additional number, you will be billed a pro-rated amount for service at the end of the month. From then on you will be billed for your monthly service.

Adding a Custom Toll-free Number

1. Mouse over Configure and click Add a Number.
2. Click Custom.
3. In the custom number selector, choose a prefix and enter the text that you would like to use for your vanity number, using the format (8xx) xxx-xxxx. You can also use the keypad below the selector to enter the numbers that correspond to your text. For example, (800) 438-3663 for (800) GET-FONE, or enter * as a wildcard to let the system suggest phone numbers that are close to your text phrase.
4. Click Search.
5. If the number that corresponds to your text phrase is available and you want to purchase it, click Continue. If not, keep trying different prefixes, text and number combinations until you find a custom number that is available. The custom toll-free phone number that you selected is added to your account.
