The undertaker and the automatic phone switch

Just a trivia story for the holiday weekend:

Who invented the first telephone automatic switch??

Well, the story goes that it was an undertaker from Kansas named Almon Strowger who lost clients to a competitive undertaker who got all the calls when people called the operator asking for an undertaker. The operator was his wife.

Almon then worked on inventing an automatic switch that will get the calls directly without an operator.
