How does LNP work?

Let’s say that you want to transfer your cell phone (or current home phone) number to Phone.com. Our services can be utilized with the number by way of any telephone linked through a phone line or wireless connection, but the service you actually have on your cell phone can only be continued as long as you still pay the cell phone company as well. Still confused?

Here are the steps you need to accomplish if say you want to transfer a cell phone # 555-1212 to Phone.com:

  • Transfer cell phone number 555-1212 to Phone.com.
  • To keep the cell phone service active, request a NEW number from your cell phone provider.
  • Our features can be used for 555-1212 and will direct calls to ring your cell phone – and any other phone you may have.
  • You will pay Phone.com to use our extended services, and your cell phone provider for whatever plan you choose from them.
  • You will only publish your Phone.com number, you do not have to give out your new cell phone number.**

**Please be aware that LNP can take between 20 AND 30 days to complete. As much as we would love to port your number over immediately the LNP “Authorities” requires a copy of your current bill and is reliant on the acceptance of the transfer by your exiting LEC (Local Exchange Carrier) or cell phone company. Please check with your provider BEFORE initiating a port request to make sure the number is FULLY portable. We cannot override any freezes or account holds your provider may place on your number.
